The newly crowned Miss World Canada, Riza Santos, will take part in the Pinoy Fiesta celebration as a special guest host. Miss Santos is a proud Filpino-Canadian and she’s looking forward to share her achievement to her kababayans in Vancouver on August 6th.

The Filipino-Canadian community will make history on August 6th as thousands of Pinoys will do the Pinoy Ako Flash Mob at the Olympic Village on False Creek. Come and join the fun. Check the youtube video of Pinoy Ako under the “Photos and Videos” tab and try to learn the Pinoy Fiesta: Unang Hirit sa Tag-Init flash mob dance. Mga Kababayan, Mag Hiritan tayo sa Sayawang Pinoy. Pinoy Ako! Pinoy Tayo! Kaya Natin Ito!

The First Ever Filipino Cultural Street Parade was a huge success last year. Thousands joined the parade with colorful and amazing costumes and floats. And thousands more lined up on streets to witness the first Filipino Cultural Street Parade. To commemorate this monumental event, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson Proclaimed “Filipino Fiesta Day” in the City of Vancouver.

This year’s celebration will be another first to the Filipino community. For the very first time, the Filipino-Canadians will celebrate the very popular Pinoy Fiesta: Unang Hirit sa Tag-init at the famous Olympic Village on False Creek, Vancouver. The Filipino-Canadian community is going mainstream and is expecting thousands of participants and spectators to join the street parade and the festival at the Village.

Hataw Pinoy, Philippine Summer Festival – July 23 & 24 2011

Another “riot” is about to unfold in the city on July 23-24, 2011. Only this time, it will be “riotous” fun, great food, and non-stop entertainment as “HATAW PINOY 2011”, the Philippine Summer Festival unfolds at the Forum of Vancouver’s Olympic landmark, the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). The Filipino Canadian Cultural Heritage Society (FCCHS) announced its second staging of the event, which was launched last year at the Richmond Olympic oval grounds and came out to be the largest summer event of the Filipino community.

With more than 120,000 Filipino Canadians in BC, where a good 96,000 are scattered all over the Metro Vancouver area, some 10%-15% are expected to grace the festivities, with various representative groups coming from the neighbouring cities of Kelowna, Kamloops, Victoria, Whistler, Squamish, Pemberton and from across the border in Seattle,WA. Last year’s celebration also saw the participation of some families who came all the way from Calgary, Alberta and planned to have their clan reunion by attending the Summer Festival at the Oval.

The biggest highlight of this year’s event program line-up is the visit of GMA “Kapuso” stars gracing the event and providing the main entertainment- led by multi-awarded movie actor/performer and film director, CESAR MONTANO, best known for his dynamic, award-winning portrayal of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal in the movie “Jose Rizal”. The film has become legendary and unprecedented as it portrays Philippine society during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines and its relevance up to the present day.

The Filipino community of Surrey will be hosting its 2nd annual Philippine Independence Day celebrations on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 10am-4pm at the Guildford Recreation Centre Gymnasium.

Once again, we will organize this commemorative and festive event in celebration of the 112th Philippine Independence Day right here in the city of Surrey, home to a great number of Filipino-Canadians, and is the 2nd city in B.C. with the most number of Filipino residents. The celebration will have songs and dances, entertainment, exhibits, games, raffle draw & prizes, food concessions, and a parade/procession via this years’ special presentation of the Festival of Queens and Flowers (Santacruzan) in line with our Society’s aim to share and promote Filipino culture, heritage, and traditions among our fellow Canadians. This event will be free of admission and open to the public, and will be widely advertised. Our last year’s event was attended by about 2,000-3,000 people, coming and going, throughout the entire day, was graced by several government dignitaries, was sent greeting to by no less than the Prime Minister, and was featured in the city website, Shaw TV, and several newspaper publications.

We would like to invite you, your family and friends to come celebrate with us and visit the event. The celebration will start with the Santacruzan at 10:00 in the morning and the official Opening ceremony would take place at 1:00 in the afternoon. We look forward to seeing you at the event!
