Surrey Philippine Independence Day Celebration – Sunday, June 6, 2010

The Filipino community of Surrey will be hosting its 2nd annual Philippine Independence Day celebrations on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 10am-4pm at the Guildford Recreation Centre Gymnasium.

Once again, we will organize this commemorative and festive event in celebration of the 112th Philippine Independence Day right here in the city of Surrey, home to a great number of Filipino-Canadians, and is the 2nd city in B.C. with the most number of Filipino residents. The celebration will have songs and dances, entertainment, exhibits, games, raffle draw & prizes, food concessions, and a parade/procession via this years’ special presentation of the Festival of Queens and Flowers (Santacruzan) in line with our Society’s aim to share and promote Filipino culture, heritage, and traditions among our fellow Canadians. This event will be free of admission and open to the public, and will be widely advertised. Our last year’s event was attended by about 2,000-3,000 people, coming and going, throughout the entire day, was graced by several government dignitaries, was sent greeting to by no less than the Prime Minister, and was featured in the city website, Shaw TV, and several newspaper publications.

We would like to invite you, your family and friends to come celebrate with us and visit the event. The celebration will start with the Santacruzan at 10:00 in the morning and the official Opening ceremony would take place at 1:00 in the afternoon. We look forward to seeing you at the event! It would be great to celebrate another year of the community’s friendship and association with you!
